NFL Player Props - Week 11

by ASA, Inc.

Thursday, Nov 14, 2024

Lamar Jackson over 42.5 Rush Yards (-115)Jackson has surpassed 45 rushing yards in seven of his ten games this season. In the previous two weeks he has not needed to use his legs as much, shredding the Broncos and Bengals in the midst of throwing 7 TDs and 0 INTs. He matches up against the Steelers and their second ranked scoring defense on the road this Sunday. A better defense actually suits Jackson’s rushing prop as he will be forced to run more rather than get what he wants from the pocket. Lamar has only played in 2 of the previous 6 games against Pittsburgh, and he rushed for 55 and 45 yards respectively. Expect Jackson to return to his scrambling ways in a huge divisional matchup in the highest projected point total of the weekend. Christian McCaffrey Over 27.5 Rec Yards (-120)CMC was finally back last week and totalled 107 yards with 68 receiving yards on seven targets. With such involvement in the passing game, especially after missing every game so far this season, McCaffrey will see plenty of volume once again. Another hotly contested division game has the second highest O/U of week 11. Seattle has a middle of the road defense but can fill it up on offense. Points should be plentiful and if CMC plays 88% of the running back snaps again, it's hard to imagine he does not amass his receiving total. Tyreek Hill Anytime TD (+120) Hill caught his first touchdown since week one in last week's win vs the Rams. Since Tua has been back, the Dolphins offense went from abysmal to just mediocre. With so many weapons and Tyreek’s immense talent it's only a matter of time before Miami gets back on track. Hill had so many explosive plays and 13 TDs last season. Las Vegas ranks 30th in points allowed in 2024 and if Reek is ever going to have a breakout game, its going to be after a big win while gaining chemistry back with his quarterback against a bad team. Hill has nine targets the past two games combined which is unacceptable. The squeaky wheel treatment better be in store for the NFLs fastest man.

Vegas Writer's NHL Morning Skate

by Vegas Writer

Thursday, Nov 14, 2024

Welcome to Thursday's edition of the "Morning Skate," which followed a five-game card that featured three road wins.Detroit, Vegas and Toronto won on strange ice, while Utah and Colorado held it down in their barns. We have 10 games on the card tonight, including the second of a two-game mini-series between Eastern Conference contenders New Jersey and Florida. The Devils took the 4-1 decision on Tuesday, despite getting outshot 35-24.Let's take a look at the main highlights from Wednesday: After Toronto's William Nylander cut Washington's lead to one with 4:09 remaining and Mitch Marner tied the score with 48 seconds on the clock, John Tavares netted the overtime winner in a 4-3 win to help the Maple Leafs complete an incredible comeback. Colorado's Mikko Rantanen scored a natural hat trick and a four-point night as he factored on each of Colorado’s goals during a 4-2 win over the Kings, while Nathan MacKinnon tallied three assists to help the Avalanche win their fourth straight home game. Vegas' Jack Eichel joined MacKinnon as the NHL’s second player to record 20 assists this season and surpassed teammate Mark Stone (20 GP in 2020-21) as the fastest player in Golden Knights history to reach the 20-helper mark in a season. Through the first 36 nights of the season: Favorites are 158-87, including a 133-68 run. Overs are 115-109-21, but the Under is currently on a 38-25-7 roll. Tonight's FEATURED GAME (lines courtesy DraftKings):Philadelphia at Ottawa (-170, 6u, -115)PREDICTION: The Philadelphia Flyers have seen their last two games land on seven goals, finishing with 4-3 scores, one a win and the other a loss. Toss in a 10-goal game four games back, which are the highest-scoring games they've seen since late October. In facing an Ottawa team that has the offensive potential it has, I have to wonder if the Sens will engage in a high-scoring game. It's a one-off home game for the Senators after playing in Boston and Toronto in their previous two games, which might be why those games landed on 5 and 3 goals. Three of the last four meetings have gone over the posted number, with the last four meetings averaging 7.5 goals per game. Look for a high-scoring game here, as I one of these teams just may win by a final of 5-4.

College Football Top 12 Poll

by Wayne Root

Wednesday, Nov 13, 2024

We knew that the AP Top 25 college football rankings could see some major movement based on how a loaded Week 11 played out. But even then, I don't think we realized just how chaotic things could get. After we saw Alabama and Ole Miss lay the hammer down on LSU and Georgia, respectively, though, things are about to get hectic for these rankings and the College Football Playoff picture. What a weekend of college football week 11 turned out to be. Can we do a quick head count to make sure everyone is okay? Let's start with the remaining undefeated teams. Oregon? Indiana? BYU? Army? Is everyone alive and accounted for? Oregon and Indiana look fine, but... BYU and Army? How can I say this delicately... you nearly gave us a heart attack with a 1-point win over Utah and a close shave with North Texas. But not all is right in the minds of the playoff selection committee, and projecting BYU and Indiana to make a leap is far from a certainty when last week's precedent clearly made the statement that the rankings will benefit who feels like the best teams, rather than the teams who have "earned" a top-5 position.I think the committee is setting it up to diss BYU and Indiana. They argued when considering the final four teams and now argue about how to place 12 teams. This remains interesting. 1. Oregon Ducks (10-0)At Wisconsin If you just look at the final score of Saturday night’s matchup and the 39-18 victory for the top-ranked Ducks, you probably will just think that, even if they didn’t cover the 24-point spread, Oregon did their job. However, this matchup was far closer in Eugene than you might realize and had some chances to go sideways at various times. Make no mistake, Dan Lanning’s team indeed did get the job done, but this might not have been their best effort overall. However, Dillon Gabriel tossed three touchdowns in the winning effort, giving him an FBS-record 180 touchdowns responsible for in his career.2. Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1)At Northwestern Ohio State notched its first two-shutout season of the Ryan Day era with its blowout win over Purdue on Saturday. Will Howard completed 21 of 26 pass attempts for 260 passing yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another. Let’s be honest, we’re not exactly going to learn much more about Ohio State when they’re matched up against a seemingly lifeless Purdue team that could be on the verge of parting ways with head coach Ryan Walters. Having said that, it was further confirmed that Ryan Day’s Buckeyes are one of the best team’s in the country as they wholly embarrassed the Boilermakers in a 45-0 rout set in Columbus. 3. Texas Longhorns (8-1)At Arkansas Throughout the week, there were several college football analysts who looked at the remaining four games for the Texas Longhorns, then looked at the production of Quinn Ewers since his return from an oblique injury and wondered if Steve Sarkisian would make a switch to Arch Manning at some point. Ewers made that type of talk look completely silly on Saturday as Texas laid the hammer down on Florida in Austin, 49-17, in a game that wasn’t even that close. The Longhorns defense forced three turnovers with a fumble recovery and two interceptions. Texas has forced a turnover in all nine games this season and 17-straight games overall.4. Tennessee Volunteers (8-1) At Georgia Tennessee dominated Mississippi State in its final SEC home game to finish conference play 6-0 in Neyland Stadium. The good news: Tennessee avoided a potential letdown spot on Saturday nightwith an inferior Mississippi State team coming to Knoxville. The bad news: Josh Heupel’s team picked up that win in Week 11 with Gaston Moore playing the second half after Nico Iamleava was removed from the game after halftime with an injury that looms large for this team. That puts a sour note on the runaway victory for the Vols. 5. Penn State Nittany Lions (8-1) At Purdue Do I truly believe that the Penn State Nittany Lions are the fifth-best team in college football? Not even a little bit. But, based on where they were ranked in the AP Top 25 and the CFP rankings after a loss to Ohio State in which they failed to score an offensive touchdown, they’re going to get back into the Top 5. They can thank Georgia Tech and Ole Miss for upset victories that made that happen but, to the Nittany Lions’ credit, they did rebound well against Washington. Penn State opened the night with touchdowns on each of its first four drives to take a 28-0 lead over Washington into halftime. The Nittany Lions defense held Washington to 74 rushing yards on 33 carries (2.2 avg.) and produced five sacks from five different defenders. 6. Indiana Hoosiers (10-0)Bye weekIndiana's storybook season continued with a win over Michigan, just the Hoosiers' second defeat of the Wolverines since 1988. Indiana is 10-0 for the first time in school history and looks poised for its first College Football Playoff berth. For the first nine games of Indiana’s undefeated start to the 2024 season, the Hoosiers were the epitome of frontrunners. Outside of falling behind 10-0 to Michigan State — which Indiana responded to with 47 unanswered points of their own — the Hoosiers hadn’t truly been in a dogfight. But they got themselves in one against Michigan on Saturday. And it’s again a credit to Curt Cignetti and his team that they persevered and got the gritty 20-15 win in Bloomington. 7. BYU Cougars (9-0) Hosting KansasI said coming into Holy War that there weren't really football reasons that came to mind as to why BYU could lose to rival Utah given where the two rival programs had been trending. And yet, it felt impossible to not put the Cougars on upset alert because of the nature of this rivalry. That proved true in an absolute thriller at Rice-Eccles as BYU staved off what seemed like a surefire loss somehow to win. The Cougars outscored Utah 12-0 in the second half and outgained the Utes, 188-79, picking up the win late with a third game-winning drive on its final possession this season.8. Miami Hurricanes (9-1)Bye weekSo many times this season, we’ve seen Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes stick their hand over the flame but ultimately not get burned. Whether that was against Cal, against Louisville, or against Virginia Tech, The U could’ve been considered lucky to still be undefeated entering Week 11. But that type of roulette is always going to catch up to a team and, on Saturday in Atlanta against Georgia Tech, that’s exactly what happened. The Hurricanes still have an inside track for an ACC championship and College Football Playoff berth but have serious questions to answer on defense after allowing a season-high 271 rushing yards against the Yellow Jackets.9. Notre Dame (8-1) Hosting Virginia Not that there was ever any question given what Florida State has devolved into this season but Notre Dame continued their tour of domination on Saturday night as they put a thumping on the Seminoles, clearly looking for some more style points to try and sway some voters. Notre Dame racked up a season-high eight sacks in a dominant win over Florida State for its seventh-straight victory. The Fighting Irish' 52 points are the most against Florida State this season. They got them in the blowout victory, holding FSU under 200 yards of total offense while Riley Leonard threw for 215 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 70 more with two rushing scores. 10. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-2)Hosting MercerAlabama faced what many considered a College Football Playoff elimination game at LSU on Saturday and responded with its best performance of the season. The win, paired with the Georgia loss, revived the Crimson Tide's College Football Playoff hopes. Jalen Milroe is the boogeyman that haunts the dreams of Brian Kelly. While Alabama was the favorite on the road in Death Valley for this game on Saturday night, the Crimson Tide completely dominated start to finish. The star quarterback was front and center for that, rushing for four touchdowns and nearly 200 yards in the blowout win. He might not even have been the most impressive part of the win. 11. Ole Miss Rebels (8-2) Bye weekLSU losing on Saturday nightagainst Alabama is actually the best thing that could happen in-tandem with Ole Miss taking down Georgia. Lane Kiffin made a statement with a win over Georgia, handing Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs their largest margin of defeat since the 2019 SEC Championship Game. It would’ve been hard to justify moving the Rebels over a Tigers team that beat them with the same record. But now, Lane Kiffin’s team can ride the high of a dominant win over the Dawgs into the Top 12 and start to legitimately think about a relatively comfy road to a 10-2 record and, perhaps, a CFP spot.12. Georgia Bulldogs (7-2) Hosting Tennessee Full disclosure, I have no earthly idea what to make of Georgia, even after 11 weeks of the regular season. Georgia suffered its second loss of SEC play and eliminated any margin for error in its hunt for the College Football Playoff with a disappointing loss at Ole Miss on Saturday. At their best, they put a hurting on both Clemson and Texas, which should be indicative of the ceiling that the Bulldogs have this season. The flip side of that, though, is that they were embarrassed in the first half against Alabama and for the full game on Saturday against Ole Miss. Those two signature wins for Kirby Smart’s team will keep the Dawgs ranked inside of the Top 12, especially with neither loss being all that bad. The Tennessee matchup next week, however, looms large, especially with the offense struggling.

Grey Cup Preview

by Will Rogers

Monday, Nov 11, 2024

On Sunday, the Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers will battle for the 2024 Grey Cup. It's a rematch of the 2022 final. The Argos upset the Bombers that year. First awarded in 1909, there have since been 100 Grey Cups. They didn't play from 1916 to 1919 or 2020. This year's big game will be played at Vancouver's BC Place. Let's take a closer look. The OddsThe Bombers are favored by 10.5 points. The total is 50. The Teams The Argos defeated Montreal 30-28 to get here. Winners of five of their last six, they are 12-8 SU and 10-9-1 ATS. Fourteen of Toronto's 20 games went over the total. The Bombers blasted Saskatchewan 38-22 to advance to this game. They have won nine of 10 and are 12-7 SU and 9-10 ATS on the season. Fourteen of Winnipeg's 19 games finished under the total. The InjuryThe Bombers wouldn't be such heavy favorites if not for an injury to Toronto's starting quarterback. Chad Kelly, the CFL’s outstanding player last season, suffered a broken ankle last week against Montreal. That means that Veteran Nick Arbuckle will make his first-ever Grey Cup start. Head-To-HeadToronto won both regular season meetings. Both games were very close and each was low-scoring. The first was back in July, before Winnipeg had really found its way. The Argos won 16-14, in OT. The second was last month, Toronto winning 14-11.Five Straight Grey Cup AppearancesIf it seems like the Bombers are always in the Grey Cup, it's because they are. This will mark their fifth consecutive appearance. They won the first two but lost each of the last two. The Bombers are the fourth team to make five consecutive Grey Cup appearances, the first since Edmonton competed in six straight, (1977-82) nearly 50 years ago. Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros, now 36 years old, will make his sixth Grey Cup start, going after his fourth ring. He earned his first with Toronto, back in 2012.Going For 8 StraightThe Argos may not reach the final as regularly as Winnipeg. When they do, they have a knack for closing the deal. They've been involved in seven Grey Cups since 1991 and they've won all seven. With 18 Grey Cups in their history, the Argos have won the big game more than any other team. They're 18-6 in the Final. With 30 Grey Cup appearances, the Bombers have been to the big game more than any other team. They're just 12-18. Coaching TiesBoth coaches have ties to the opposition. Winnipeg’s coach Mike O’Shea had some great years with the Argos as a linebacker. He won three Grey Cups with Toronto as a player (1996-97, ’04) and another as the Argos' special-teams coordinator (2012). This will be his fifth straight Grey Cup game as a head coach. Toronto’s coach Ryan Dinwiddie used to play quarterback for Boise State. His first-career CFL start was with the Blue Bombers. That was in the 2007 Grey Cup versus Saskatchewan. He played three seasons for Winnipeg. This will be his second Grey Cup as a head coach. He was also the Stampeders' quarterback coach for their 2018 Grey Cup victory.Another Close One?Seven of the past nine Grey Cups were decided by eight points or less. Eight of those games were decided by 11 or less. The last three Grey Cups had scores of 28-24, 24-23 and 33-25. The last game at Vancouver was in 2014, a 20-16 win for Calgary over Hamilton. My OpinionI've been watching the Grey Cup for a long time. The games are often close (see above) and Winnipeg doesn't regularly fare too well. The injury to Kelly has created value with the Argos. They already beat the Bombers with Arbuckle at QB once and they have the defense to make things difficult for Collaros. At +10.5, let's go with Toronto!

Vegas Writer's NHL Morning Skate

by Vegas Writer

Monday, Nov 11, 2024

Welcome to Monday's edition of the "Morning Skate," recapping the weekend while looking at the standings. The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers have done a good job carrying their success from last season into this one, as they're 11-3-1 with 23 points sitting atop the Atlantic Division. In the Metro, it's the New Jersey Devils (10-6-2) leading the pack with 22 points, but on their heels are the Carolina Hurricanes (10-3-0) with an impressive plus-20 goal differential.Leading the league, in what's been a bit of a surprise, is Central Division-leading Winnipeg, as the Jets are 14-1-0 (28 points) and a league-best plus-36 point differential.Perhaps the biggest surprise is the Pacific Division, with the Los Angeles Kings (9-4-3) leading the pack with 21 points and the Vegas Golden Knights (9-3-2)one point back. They're the only two teams are in the plus with goal-differential.The highest scoring division, as a whole, is the Metropolitan at plus-29, followed by the Central at plus-5. Teams from the Atlantic are minus-11 while the Pacific teams are -23.Let's take a look at the main highlights from Sunday: Mackenzie Blackwood (44 saves) recorded his fourth career 40-save shutout to lead San Jose past New Jersey, 1-0. Kirill Kaprizov assisted on the game-tying goal by Matt Boldy with 4:31 left in regulation, only to be spiled by Philipp Kurashev and Seth Jones, who connected for Chicago's overtime winner in a 2-1 win, which snapped its 12-game slide against Minnesota. Leo Carlsson registered his third game-winning goal of the season while John Gibson turned away 38 shots in his return to Anaheim’s crease. Carlsson is tied for the second most game-winners in the NHL this season. Through the first 33 nights of the season: Favorites are 148-79, including a 123-60 run. Overs are 107-100-20, but the Under is currently on a 30-16-6 roll. Tonight's FEATURED GAME (lines courtesy DraftKings):Carolina (-142, 6.5u, -118) at VegasPREDICTION: The Hurricanes just had their eight-game win streak snapped in Denver on Saturday, and now enter hostile territory, as the Golden Knights have yet to lose at home and return from a two-game trip they gathered three points after winning in Edmonton and losing in overtime in Seattle. Plenty of question marks with a couple of injuries with Vegas, but when you come into the season with arguably the best defensive pairings, and strong depth with centermen, you should be able to compensate against tough competition. Vegas comes in 8-0-0 at home, the longest home win streak in franchise history. The Golden Knights have outscored their opponents 43-19 inside T-Mobile Arena, averaging 5.38 goals-for-per-game, the most in the NHL. The Golden Knights come away with the win here.
