Wofford won 19 games last season in the first season under Kevin Giltner. As a heavy underdog, the Terriers value taking care of the ball for an appealing trait, finishing with one of the lowest turnover rates in the nation last season. In two top 100 non-conference tests last season Wofford lost by 31 at Auburn and by just 11 at Wichita State but Tennessee is generally a much slower-paced team than Auburn as the underdog spread will be more valuable tonight. Tennessee was an Elite 8 team last season led by a top 15 defense and excellent rebounding, as second chance points are rare against the Volunteers. This was not a strong shooting team last season however and was a rather poor free throw shooting team as Tennessee isn’t likely to open the season with great offensive efficiency. It is also a year of massive roster transformation with five players combining to average over 60 points per game departing. It was an impressive transfer portal class for Rick Barnes, but it may take some time to find the necessary rhythm and coordination with all the new pieces from different places. Tennessee’s defense slipped a bit from the usual standards under Barnes last season, particularly in the paint and in creating turnovers and last season Tennessee went 1-4 ATS in the team’s five home non-conference games to start the season with similar heavy favorite lines. Four contributors are back for the Terriers while Jacob Daniels led a D-II national title last season and could have an immediate impact alongside SoCon all-conference candidate Chace Watley. My selection is on the 'over' between Ohio and Akron at 7 pm et on Tuesday. Akron is an awful defensive team but unlike past editions, it can put up some points offensively. The Zips have allowed 6.2 yards per play or more in five of their last six games and six of eight contests overall this season. They'll have their hands full against an Ohio offense that has been rolling lately, gaining 7.3 and 6.6 ypp over its last two games, respectively. On a positive note, Akron has scored 20 or more points in two of its last three games and has gained 5.0 ypp or more in four of its last five contests. It's easy to project a letdown from the visiting Bobcats here as they roll in on a five-game losing streak and I think 'under' bettors have gotten a little too comfortable with four of hteir last five contests staying 'under' the total. The 'over' is 5-3 in the Zips eight games to date this season. Take the over (8*).

Take Stetson In my view, this matchup favors the Stetson Hatters staying within the number (20.5). Why? While South Carolina competed in one of the toughest conferences in the nation (SEC) last season, the Gamecocks still posted a disappointing 13-19 overall record and averaged 74.9 points per game. Defensively, South Carolina allowed 76.5 points per contest (228th in nation). The Gamecocks utilized a quality defense and strong rebounding but often struggled to consistently generate offense. Meanwhile, Stetson enters the 2026 regular season after posting an abysmal 12-21 record in 2025. Stetson had issues on offense and defense last season. The Hatters averaged just 71.9 points per contest which ranked 316th in the country. While the Stetson Hatters face a significant step up in competition in this contest, I believe Stetson has enough talent to remain competitive and stay within the number here. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Stetson Hatters plus the 20.5 points in this game.
