- Analysis
- At 8:15 PM ET on Monday, we will be playing Over the Total in the game between the Chicago Bears (265) and the Seattle Seahawks (266). THE SITUATION: Chicago (5-2) has won two games in a row after their 30-24 win at home against New England as a 2.5-point favorite on Thursday, October 22nd. Seattle (4-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 20-3 win at home against Kansas City as a 2.5-point favorite last Sunday.
REASONS TO TAKE OVER THE TOTAL: Both of these teams' offensive numbers and deeper metrics need to be taken with a grain of salt since both quarterbacks, Caleb Williams and Sam Darnold, have missed multiple games this season. Williams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions against the Patriots’ good defense last week. He also added 18 yards with his legs and remains willing and able to run the ball for first downs. He has taken the next step in his development in his second season working with head coach Ben Johnson. After ranking 39th of 45 qualifying quarterbacks in Completion Percentage Above Expectation, he leads all NFL quarterbacks in that metric this season while completing 71.0% of his passes. The Bears have scored 61 combined points in their last two games even without their injured running back Kyle Monangi. In Williams’ last 11 starts, the Over is 8-2-1 for Chicago — and the final score has finished Over the Total by +12.3 Points-Per-Game. Three of his four starts have seen 54, 54, and 96 combined points. The lone exception was their 9-3 loss against Minnesota in Week Two — and that continues a common refrain that NFC North rivals play better on defense against Johnson than the rest of the league, probably out of familiarity and dedicated offseason study. The Seahawks’ defense is outstanding — and they have only allowed 20 combined points in their last two games. But they did give up 88 combined points in their previous three contests, with both Washington and San Francisco scoring at least 32 points against them. The Bears have played 8 of their last 12 games Over the Total on the road — and they have played 5 of their last 8 road games Over the Total when the total is set in the 42.5-49 point range. They have also played 4 of their last 5 games Over the Total when playing on field turf. Seattle has played 13 of their last 21 games Over the Total after a straight-up win — and they have played 8 of their last 13 games Over the Total after a win at home. They came off the mini-bye after playing on a Thursday to tweak their offense by asking less of quarterback Sam Darnold, who has been taking too many sacks. The Seahawks offense ran the ball more and had Darnold deploy more quick passes that got the ball out quickly. The result was that Seattle generated 410 yards against a good Chiefs defense — and they held the ball for 35:51 minutes in that game. Reinforcements are coming for this showdown. Running backs Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price are expected to be active to bolster their rushing attack. The team also made a major splash by acquiring Indianapolis’ outstanding left guard Quenton Nelson in a trade — and he will be able to plug-and-play on their offensive line. Despite having a great defense under head coach Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks play plenty of games that finish Over the Total. Seattle has played 9 of their last 14 games Over the Total after not allowing more than 14 points in their last game — and they have played 6 straight Overs after not allowing more than six points in their last contest.
FINAL TAKE: The Seahawks have played 11 of their last 14 games at home Over the Total when favored — and the Bears have played 6 of their last 9 road games Over the Total as an underdog. 10* NFL Monday Night O/U Discounted Deal with Over the Total in the game between the Chicago Bears (265) and the Seattle Seahawks (266).
