- Analysis
- Seattle’s ability to eliminate explosive plays provides the foundation for this Under. The Seahawks allow an NFL-low 233.9 yards per game, including just 144.4 through the air. No opponent has exceeded 176 passing yards against them this season, presenting a substantially different assignment for a Chicago offense coming off consecutive 30-point performances.
Caleb Williams has surpassed 300 passing yards without an interception in each of his last two starts. However, Seattle’s ability to generate pressure without consistently sending extra rushers allows it to preserve coverage downfield, challenge explosive throws and force offenses to execute longer drives.
The strongest supporting matchup comes on third down. Chicago leads the NFL by allowing opponents to convert only 26.1% of their opportunities, while Seattle ranks second at 28.0%. Both defenses have demonstrated an ability to end possessions, making it difficult for either offense to repeatedly recover from negative plays or incomplete passes.
Chicago leads the league with 154.3 rushing yards per game, but Seattle has gone 36 consecutive games, including the postseason, without allowing a 100-yard rusher. The Bears also remain without running back Kyle Monangai, reducing their backfield depth.
Seattle faces its own offensive limitations. Left tackle Charles Cross and receiver Rashid Shaheed are out, while guard Anthony Bradford is questionable. Those absences threaten protection and remove a downfield weapon, potentially making sustained scoring drives more difficult.
Both teams have stayed Under in four of seven games. That is modest support, with the stronger case resting on Seattle’s yardage suppression, both defenses’ third-down efficiency and the offensive availability concerns.
Chicago’s extra preparation time and Williams’ recent accuracy deserve respect. Nevertheless, this matchup supplies several credible ways for possessions to end without touchdowns, making Under the preferred play.
