- ASA NBA play on at Houston Rockets -4.5 vs. Boston Celtics, 8:40pm ET
This game means more to former Boston coach and current Rockets coach Udoka after his firing in Beantown. Not only that, but the Rockets catch the Celtics coming off a game yesterday in Orlando making this the 2nd night of a back-to-back on the road. Houston on the other hand has been off since Saturday which was also a home game for them so no travel. Both teams have just one loss this season, but the Rockets strength of schedule is more impressive with wins over the Spurs and Thunder. Not only has Houston played the more difficult schedule, but they have the better eDIFF rating of +9.8 (5th best in the NBA) compared to the Celtics +7.9 (9th). Houston brought in former Celtics Marcus Smart as an insurance policy to back up starting PG VanVleet and it’s paying dividends already this season. Smart scored 24-points, made seven 3-pointers in his first start of the season Saturday. Boston’s Jayson Tatum is putting up MVP type numbers early on and he’s gotten help on the offensive end from vet Paul George who is scoring 20.7ppg. The rest of the Celtics supporting cast though has not contributed enough at this point of the season to consider this team a title contender. Houston on the other hand might be the only team in the West that can give the Spurs a run for their money now that OKC is beat up with injuries. Houston doesn’t have great home ATS results, but this is a very low number which ties into their 31-13 SU streak at home with an average plus/minus of +6.9ppg. Boston has great overall road numbers, but this year’s roster isn’t quite as good as last years. I am typically very high on the Celtics organization/team as they are extremely well run and coached, but this is a rare case where I expect them to get blown out. Lay it with Houston.
