Analysis: Charlotte looks like a strong side tonight. Detroit’s the better team and they’ve got the best defense in the league right now, so nobody’s arguing they should be the favorite. But this is at Spectrum Center, the Pistons are still without Jalen Duren, and the public is piled on them (one report had 95% of the bets on Detroit -4.5). That usually means you’re getting a little extra juice on the other side. They already played earlier this week and Detroit won 97-89 at home. Charlotte’s offense has been rough (league-low scoring), but Brandon Miller can get hot and the home spot matters in these early-season games. A couple of the projections have this landing in the mid-to-high 100s for both sides, which covers the number pretty easily even if the Pistons win. Not saying Charlotte wins. Just saying laying almost 5 with Detroit on the road, without their starting center, and with most of the money on them feels like a bad spot.
