- Analysis
- Chicago is 7-5 S/U and ATS in road games under Ben Johnson, but they are just 4-4 ATS as road underdogs with losses in the past two instances last December. Chicago has allowed an average of more than 30 points per game in its road games this season and in 12 road games under Johnson the Bears have allowed at least 23 points in 10 of those games. Seattle is 10-1 S/U in the past 11 home games and Seattle has scored at least 29 points in five of the team’s last seven home games. Both teams had statement wins vs. top AFC contenders last week as the Bears held off New England on Thursday while the Seahawks topped Kansas City Sunday night. The Seattle defense held the undefeated Chiefs to three points and 213 yards. Seattle allowed only three points against the Bears two seasons ago in Chicago in a late season game. Sam Darnold played better last week but still didn’t have a turnover-free game with 13 Seattle giveaways this season, now facing last season’s #1 turnover margin team. The Bears are 8-5 ATS with seven S/U wins as an underdog since the start of last season and Seattle being just a slight home favorite signals that the gap between these teams may be minimal, while the scheduling set-up does favor the extended turnaround for the Bears. It is hard to ignore that this is the #1 yards per play defense in the NFL facing the #32 yards per play defense in the NFL, however, something that rarely happens, particularly with teams featuring similar records and a low favorite price.
