- Purdue did lose a lot from last season. Most notably, the Big 10 Player of the Year Braden Smith. As a result, the Boilermakers are being pegged to finish sixth in their conference in the preseason poll. But they did add last year's Ivy League Player of the Year, Caden Pierce, who averaged 16.6 points per game for Princeton. There's also some decent holdover talent for Matt Painter. I have questions about Monday's opponent, Gonzaga, who has migrated over to the Pac 12 after decades of dominating the WCC. Mark Few brought in a lot of transfers during the offseason. It will take awhile for those players to gel. While the Zags are ranked #15 in the country, I think this has the potential to be one of their weaker teams in some time.
