- Analysis
- Wake Forest is an intriguing value on Friday night in Winston-Salem against Miami. I like Wake Forest to stay inside the big number against Miami Friday, especially at three TD’s or better.
Miami has smoked Stanford 45-6 and Florida A& M 77-7, so yes, Wake is jumping way up in class. However, those two blowouts have also inflated this ridiculous spread.
Wake Forest has an efficient quarterback who can keep the Demon Deacons in games. Gio Lopez has thrown for 575 yards and four scores without an interception in two games and can make defenses pay with his legs too. He ran for three touchdowns against Akron and had passing and rushing scores in Wake's 38-36 double overtime road win at Purdue. He earned ACC Quarterback of the Week honors after the game.
Wake has put up 38 points in back-to-back games, defeating Akron 38-16 and Purdue 38-36. Now the Demon Deacons return home for their first nationally televised game of the year on Friday night. They don't have to actually threaten Miami to cover this number. Wake just needs to have enough sustained drives and scoring drives to keep Miami from putting up four touchdowns on them.
Yes, Miami is a lot better than Wake Forest. But laying three touchdowns on the road against an undefeated conference opponent who has a productive dual-threat quarterback is much different than facing your first two FBS opponents of the year.
