Analysis
#109 ASA PLAY ON Houston +7.5 over Texas Tech, Friday at 8 PM ET - Tech was the heavy favorite to win the Big 12 this year but something is off with this team right now. They are 2-0 SU but 0-2 ATS failing to cover their 2 games by a combined 37 points. In week 1 they topped Abilene Christian 33-10 as a 45 point favorite. ACU is now 0-3 with losses vs Lamar and SF Austin. In their loss vs SFA last week they gave up 6.2 YPC and when they faced this Texas Tech team they only allowed 4.4 YPC. The Red Raiders have not been able to run the ball averaging just 3.8 YPC this year vs ACU and Oregon State. Last week vs OSU, the Raiders won by 11 points but were completely dominated on the field getting outgained by 120 yards. Interestingly enough, we already have a solid comparison of these 2 teams as both have faced Oregon State. Houston beat OSU 33-20 and outgained the Beavers 7.4 YPP to 5.5 YPP, which was more dominating than the final score indicated. Texas Tech played OSU last week and while they won 35-26, they were outgained 6.6 YPP to 4.7 YPP so the Beavers were the much better team in that game. In the trenches, Houston rushed for 5.6 YPC while Oregon State averaged only 1.0 YPC. Tech last week averaged just 3.4 YPC vs the Beavs while OSU averaged 2.9 YPC. Red Raider QB Hammond is not 100% healthy coming back from an ACL injury earlier than planned to start this season. When comparing him vs Houston QB Weigman, we like our chances with the Cougars. Versus Oregon State, Weigman threw for 305 yards and was sacked once. Against that same team a week later, Hammond threw for 189 yards and was sacked 4 times. Tech definitely looks overvalued early in the season while Houston looks like the better team right now. We’ll take the points.
