- Analysis
- There’s value on San Francisco taking the Monday MLB contest against Texas as the San Francisco Giants have the starting pitching advantage with Logan Webb on the bump in a line that’s opening close to even.
Webb is 6-7 with a 3.93 ERA and 93 strikeouts on the season. His excellent ground ball tendencies, ability to limit walks and consistently pitch deep into games allows him to give San Francisco a consistent floor against a Texas offense that has yet to be consistent themselves. Texas looks to send Cal Quantrill to the hill (though they are currently listed as undecided), setting up a much better offensive matchup for San Francisco than their team winning percentage indicates.
Texas is also coming into the game off an emotionally and physically draining divisional series against Houston. Texas’ bullpen will be without Jakob Junis, who is headed to the IL, which doesn’t help a relief corps that could see early game action if Quantrill has any troubles.
San Francisco has enough big bats down the order and in Willy Adames to capitalize off any mistakes. San Francisco doesn’t need to explode offensively with Webb getting the start. Four or five runs should be enough support if Webb continues to induce ground balls and limit Texas from manufacturing a big inning.
No matter who the Rangers start here tonight, I'll be on the Giants in this one with Webb on the hill.
