- Analysis
- We’ll start Milwaukee’ easy money plays on Friday with the team covering -1.5. Why is this bet value? For one, look at the pitching matchup as currently shown on public series previews: Jacob Misiorowski vs. Martín Perez. That combination gives the Brewers every opportunity to dictate pace from inning one. Both pitchers have performed well this season (Misiorowski is 8-2 with a 1.34 ERA; Perez is 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA), but Milwaukee is receiving the nastier arsenal with more strikeout potential.
Milwaukee also plays into big games, capable of winning by more than a run or two. Brewers entered Friday leading the NL Central. That’s important since winning against a run line on the road generally requires a team that can play with pressure for nine innings, and Milwaukee has been a well-rounded baseball team recently.
Lastly, Milwaukee also has a nice matchup against Atlanta’ current roster construction. Milwaukee is receiving offensive contributions from Jake Bauers, Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio. Atlanta, on the other hand, is still dealing with injuries to key players like Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider. Atlanta just acquired Joey Bart to upgrade catching depth. Translation: This is not a full Braves roster we are seeing these days.
Add it all up and you have a recipe for cover: Milwaukee is getting the stronger starter, it has success away from home and it plays a solid Braves squad that’s not completely healthy. If Milwaukee’ starting pitcher pitches to expectation and its offense hits Perez a couple times early, this game has all the makings of a Brewers run away.
