- #973 ST. LOUIS with McGreevy (-) over Kansas City with Lugo at 8:15 PM EST
Off a pair of losses to the Royals (14-6) and Padres (6-1), the Cardinals will bounce back with a solid effort in this interleague matchup. St. Louis rests 5.5-games behind Milwaukee for the top spot in the NL Central and manager Oliver Marmol will have his squad ready to go here.
On the mound for the visitors will be right-hander Michael McGreevy. In his last three June starts against the Twins, Reds, and Rangers, No. 36 was nicked for only six earned runs and 17 hits in 18.0 innings of work. Michael fanned eight and issued four free passes on his way to an 0-1 record with a 3.00 ERA. Additionally, in his short three-year career, McGreevy has visited the bump 35 times (33 as a starter) and been scratched for only 78 earned runs and 184 hits in 197.0 frames. That shakes down to a 14-9 tally with a strong 3.56 ERA.
Countering for the home team will be righty Seth Lugo. With two June starts to his credit against the Rangers and Twins, No. 67 was pounded for six earned runs and nine hits in 8.1 innings. Seth whiffed six, walked two, and failed to earn a decision on his way to a lofty 6.48 ERA. On the season, Lugo has made 14 official starts and been clipped for 34 earned runs and 82 hits in 79.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 2-4 tally with a 3.86 ERA.
There are a handful of reliable trends that support this Best Bet. St. Louis has grabbed victories in 40 of its last 73 overall, 27 of its last 41 under the lights, and 19 of its last 35 as a guest. On the flip side of the field, Houston has fallen in 20 of its last 38 at home and 19 of its last 29 when facing a winning team.
The Redbirds haven't dropped three straight since falling to the Brewers in late May and they'll rally the troops and find a way to scoop up this important road win. Take St. Louis with McGreevy. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
