- #752 CONNECTICUT (-) over Furman at 10 PM EST
After getting absolutely blasted by St. John's in the Big East Conference Tournament final by the score of 72-52, Connecticut will have no trouble crushing Furman in this Big Dance contest. The Paladins enter after winning the Southern Conference Tournament and they will run into a buzz saw in the City of Brotherly Love.
If you plan on fading the Huskies in the NCAA Tournament, you better have a darn good reason. Since 2009, head coach Dan Hurley and his players own a stunning 30-6 SU and ATS record in the Big Dance including an amazing 28-1 SU and 27-2 ATS provided they hold a team won/loss percentage of .740 or higher. With those two parameters in play and the Huskies competing in the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament (Sweet 16 or earlier), this angle explodes to a jaw-dropping 15-0 SU and ATS. Also, in the First Round of the Big Dance favorites priced at -14 or more hold an elite 36-17 ATS mark provided they enter off a straight up loss in their conference tournament championship game. If our "play on" side carries a team won/loss percentage of .725 or higher, this angle skyrockets to a magnificent 35-13 ATS.
This is going to be a challenging wagering spot for Furman. Dating back to 2007, the No. 15 seed in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament holds a rough 7-66 SU and 31-39-3 ATS record including a rough 3-25 SU and 10-18 ATS provided the No. 2 seed they are facing carries a pointspread won/loss percentage less than .535. Also, in Round 1 of the Big Dance, teams that are competing against an opponent that arrives off a blowout loss of 20 points or more hold a disturbing 26-56 SU and 31-50-1 ATS mark including a shocking 9-35 SU and 13-30-1 ATS provided their foe was not priced as a hefty underdog of +6 or more. The Paladins are catching the Huskies off that 20-point beating by the Red Storm and they fit this negative situation perfectly.
Coach Hurley and his troops play at a different level in the Big Dance and they'll bounce back off that Big East Championship whipping with a statement victory here. Take Connecticut. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
