- Our 25* NCAA-F Big 12 Game of the Month is with Iowa State minus the points versus BYU at 3:30 pm et.
The Iowa State Cyclones won their first five games of the season including resume-building victories against Kansas State in Dublin and then Iowa two weeks later. Yet they lost on the road at Cincinnati as a 1-point underdog at the beginning of the month and followed that up with a 24-17 upset loss at Colorado the next week. With the benefit of the bye week, head coach Matt Campbell should have his team ready to play this afternoon. The Cyclones have covered the point spread in six of their previous eight games at home following a bye week, including their 39-14 victory against Arizona as a four-point favorite last month. Iowa State is 35-18-1 ats in their previous fifty-four games after losing their last game. They have covered the point spread in four of their previous five games after an upset loss, and they have covered the point spread in five of their previous six games after losing to a conference opponent. The Cyclones have covered the point spread in ten of their previous sixteen games after losing two games in a row. Both of those games were on the road, and they have covered the point spread in six of their previous nine games after playing their last two games on the road. They come back home, where they have covered the point spread in five of their previous six games when the oddsmakers installed them as a favorite of up to seven points.
BYU is still unbeaten after a 24-21 upset victory at home against Utah as a 4.5-point underdog last week. They won that game despite giving up 470 yards and getting outgained by 102 net yards. They overcame the yardage disadvantage because they had a + 2 net turnover margin, along with the Utes committing 10 penalties to give back many of those yards. Utah also failed to convert on three fourth down chances, which represented turnovers on downs. It was BYU’s second straight hard-fought victory in a row after scraping by Arizona, 33-27, in the previous week. They were down ten points in the fourth quarter in that game before tying the game up and forcing overtime on the final play in regulation time. This game is their sixth straight game without the benefit of bye week, so the Cyclones are the more rested club. The Cougars have covered the point spread in two of their previous six games after playing a game where they had a +2 or better net turnover margin. They have covered the point spread twice in their previous seven games in the second half of the season. Play Iowa State minus the points.
Good luck - Team Del Genio.
