Analysis: Fresno State had no business losing in Fort Collins last week, as I don't believe the Colorado State Rams are better than the Bulldogs. Now back home, against a team every program in the Mountain West loves to beat, I'm taking the points in what becomes a must-win game. Why? Even at 5-2 and just one game shy of being bowl eligible, the Bulldogs have Boise State on deck. There is no way Fresno State wants to head to the blue turf on a two-game skid and running the risk of being mired in a three-game slide against hungry and scrappy teams. Yes, San Diego State has put itself in a position to compete for a berth in the Mountain West Championship with four straight wins - both SU and ATS - but I'm also weighing the victories in terms of strength of schedule. Overall this season, the Aztecs have wins over Stony Brook, Cal, Northern Illinois, Colorado State and Nevada. None of those move the needle for me whatsoever. Fresno State brings a perfect 9-0 ATS win streak as a home underdog against conference foes into this clash, which, by the way, has seen the pup cover five of the last seven meetings.
