- Give me the home underdog in this spot, as I think Wake Forest is about to serve SMU with a wake-up call. The Mustangs have covered back-to-back games to improve to 2-5 ATS on the year, but I think they're lucky to have even two covers this season.
Far too many people, including the oddsmakers, are confusing this year's version of SMU with the 11-win team from last year. Big mistake.

I'd rather back a Wake Forest team that continues to improve each week with first-year coach Jake Dickert under the headset, and comes into this one playing its best football, having covered three straight.
Remember, this is the same Demon Deacons team that struggled to put 10 points on the board and escaped with a season-opening victory over Kennesaw State, and one month later pounded No. 16 Georgia Tech for 17 points in just the second quarter last week, eventually carrying a two-touchdown lead into halftime. True, they ultimately fell 30-29 in overtime, but in my eyes, the Deacons are improving.
They've won two in a row SU, with a 7-point road win at Virginia Tech and 25-point win at Oregon State.
With a stringent defense that includes one of the stingiest against the pass - the Deacons rank 6th nationally with their pass-efficient D - I don't know how the Mustangs will penetrate.
Oh, and it's Homecoming? The Deacons return home after two on the road and before two more on the road, so I think we're going to see one of their best games of the season.
