With confidence off back-to-back straight up wins over Oklahoma and Kentucky, Texas will travel to Starkville and do a number on Mississippi State. The Bulldogs check into this SEC battle off three consecutive straight up conference losses to Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Florida, and this will be another massive challenge for head coach Jeff Lebby and his crew.
Last year, UT (-37.5) hosted MSU and picked up a comfortable 35-13 victory. This season, the Longhorns will visit Davis Wade Stadium and leave with a solid dub and cover as well. There is a strong conference situation that will provide the assist. Since 1980, single-digit SEC road favorites in conference play hold a respectable 75-46-2 ATS record provided their opponent slips in off two or more straight up losses. If our "play on" side holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better, this SEC angle boasts a phenomenal 57-33-1 ATS tally. That bodes well for the 'Horns.
It won't take much to fade Mississippi State in this spot. For starters, the Bulldogs have struggled in their own backyard inking a woeful 12-22-1 ATS record in their last 35 games. In this setting lined up against a conference foe, Mississippi State falls to a rough 6-18-1 ATS including a horrendous 0-14 SU and 0-13-1 ATS if it is priced between +4 and +21 points. Also, when facing a foe that enters off a pointspread loss, State sports a pitiful 8-24 SU and 11-20-1 ATS mark including a rough 4-10 SU and 2-11-1 ATS if they are rolling in their own backyard.
