- Ball State can win at home but hasn't done so on the road. Northern Illinois can't win on the road either but at least has one home win under its belt. This is a perfect spot for them to break through with another. With NIU joining the Mountain West Conference after this season, this is likely the last time these teams play for the Bronze Stalk Trophy for a while. NIU head coach Thomas Hammock, in his 7th year with the Huskies, knows the importance of winning that trophy and that doing so will take some of the sting out of a disappointing season.
