- #964 ASTROS with Brown (-) over Angels with Soriano at 2:10 PM EST
Off yesterday's home loss to the Halos and with the Yankees, Rangers, and Blue Jays on the way after a game against the Angels tomorrow, the Astros will approach this game with a real sense of urgency. Houston's lead in the AL West rests at 3.0-games over Seattle and the 'Stros need to increase that advantage before facing those three AL East warriors.
Picking up the pearl for the home team will be right-hander Hunter Brown. With 26 starts in the books this year, No. 58 was tripped for only 41 earned runs and 111 hits in 155.2 innings of work. Hunter struck out 177 and walked 46 on his way to a 10-6 record with a 2.37 ERA. In the month of August, Brown made five starts against the Rockies, Tigers, Red Sox, Yankees, and BoSox (again), and was scratched for only six earned runs and 25 hits in 31.2 frames. That's good enough for a 1-1 mark with an elite 1.71 ERA.
Young righty Jose Soriano will counter for the Angels. So far this season, No. 59 has made 27 starts and been spanked for 66 earned runs and 145 hits in 154.1 innings of work. Jose whiffed 136 and walked 65 on his way to a 9-9 record with a 3.85 ERA. In August, Soriano has seen the mound four times and been punished for 12 earned runs and 21 hits in 21.1 frames. That adds up to a 2-1 tally with a soft 5.06 ERA.
On a technical note, Houston has picked up wins in 37 of its last 60 when coming off a loss, 66 of its last 117 when rolling without rest, 41 of its last 70 when playing in the comforts of home, and 26 of its last 45 when playing during the day. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has tripped in 25 of its last 38 when fighting with the sun shining.
With series matchup on the way against three AL East powerhouses, the Astros desperately need to win the last two games at home against the Halos. Take Houston with Brown. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
