- Virginia Tech is coming into this game off of a decent season as they were 6-7 overall, making it to a bowl game, but they ended up losing that game and were only 4-4 in the ACC as well. They started the season playing well, but things started to fall apart late in the year as they lost 4 of their last 5 games to end the season. They are a team that relied heavily on the run game last season and that is not going to change with Kyron Drones returning for this season. Their passing game was not very good though and that is going to come back to bite them in this game as South Carolina has a very good run defense and will be able to stop the run here, forcing Drones to throw the ball more which will get him into trouble. They are going up against a South Carolina team that is coming off of a great season. They were only 5-3 in the SEC, but they finished 9-4 overall and even make a playoff case for themselves. They are also returning their starting QB Sellers and he is coming off of a great season, poised to take a big step this year as one of the better QB's in the country. South Carolina had a solid passing game with Sellers, but he is very difficult to defend as he can also use his legs. South Carolina also had a very good run game last season which is going to be good again this year and this is a Virginia Tech defense that they can certainly run the ball against, opening things up for Sellers in the passing game. South Carolina has the more consistent play at QB in this game and they have a lot more quality to get the job done here. South Carolina will cover the spread in this game.
