- Notre Dame’s four-game winning streak in this series came to a screeching halt in the last meeting in 2017, also in Miami. That was a Hurricanes team that moved to 9-0 with that win and eventually 10-0 before dropping the final three for a season that isn’t well remembered. The Irish gave a competitive effort in last season’s CFP final as the presence of the program on the national landscape is back. With Marcus Freeman now 33-10 S/U and impressively 28-14-1 ATS. The Irish went 2-0 ATS as a road favorite last season but will have C.J. Carr stepping into big shoes with a less experienced receiving corps that last season. The offensive line should be strong however and the Irish are back to being an annual power in college football. Replacing the #1 NFL draft pick will be difficult but Carson Beck was the top score of the transfer portal, the successful Georgia quarterback that saw his career trajectory stall and end with an injury last season. Miami’s rushing figures on both sides of the ball have been amazing the past two years and that could be the difference despite the focus on the quarterbacks, though in the short sample size in the 2025-26 season so far, a disparity in quarterback experience has been meaningful in several prominent games. Home underdogs also delivered in several big games yesterday and the ACC had a strong showing despite Clemson’s high-profile loss in a big game last night as Georgia Tech, Florida State, and California won notable non-conference games. Beck’s experience and Mario Cristobal’s track record as an elite rushing offense posting 5.6 yards per carry last season while allowing just 3.9 yards per rush makes Miami an appealing home underdog in this opener.
