Analysis: At 3:00pm Et, my selection is on Virginia Tech. This is likely the Hokies' best team in coach Brent Fry's four years here. LaNorris Sellers is an impressive quarterback, and Shane Beamer has significantly improved the South Carolina program, but the Gamecocks face significant challenges this season. Losing five players to the first four rounds of the NFL Draft—a program record—has left gaps, as South Carolina’s recruiting in the SEC isn’t strong enough to easily replace such talent. According to ESPN’s Bill Connelly, they tie with Ole Miss for the least returning defensive production in the SEC. Sellers is adapting to a new offensive coordinator and must build chemistry with a new running back. Raheim Sanders, who had 13 touchdowns and ranked third in the SEC for carries and rushing yards last season, is now in the NFL. South Carolina’s Citrus Bowl loss to Illinois as a nine-point favorite, without most of its NFL talent, offers a glimpse of potential struggles. I believe this is likely to be a close game--like V-Tech's opener last year which went to OT-- and will be happy to take the points. Play Virginia Tech
