Analysis
The Final game of this series as the Pittsburgh Pirates look to leave their Interleague clash with the Boston Red Sox on a winning note. Boston brings the arm of Lucas Giolito (9-2, 3.47 ERA) to the hill, who is enjoying a strong season to this point. He’ll be opposed by Pittsburgh starter Mitch Keller (6-12, 4.35 ERA), who’s had an inconsistent year on the surface, but also some flashes of effectiveness. The two offenses also pack a punch, as both lineups have recently been mashing and the Red Sox currently rank in the top 3 in runs per game, extra-base hits, and home runs. Trevor Story is still leading the way in the power department, while Roman Anthony has begun to find his stroke early in the order with a strong last 10 games. Pittsburgh is not afraid to use the long ball either—Jared Triolo and Tommy Pham have been especially impactful lately, and the Pirates remain more competitive offensively for that reason. Boston has a few practical advantages as this finale gets going: the better pitching, recent playoff drive momentum, and local familiarity. Giolito should keep the damage to a minimum early, but Keller has the talent to stretch this into the mid-innings if he doesn’t walk himself off the mound. I still like the Red Sox on the run line here and expect at least three runs cushion. Jim's Play: 976. Red Sox -1.5 Runs
