Xavier vs UConn Prediction

The current betting odds have UConn listed as an 18.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. UConn has looked great in their games this season with their 21-1 record overall and their 11-0 conference record which has them right at the top of the Big East. They have looked great on their home court too with their 11-1 home record this season. Meanwhile, Xavier has looked good in their games this season with their 12-10 record overall, but their 4-7 conference record has them in the bottom half of the Big East. They have been a terrible road team too with their 1-5 road record this year. Xavier is off a win over DePaul in their last one, but that win snapped a 3 game losing streak that they were on and they still needed a comeback at home to win that one. They haven't looked great lately as they are 2-3 in their last 5 games and they have taken some bad losses on the road this year, struggling against some of the weakest opponents in the conference too. That is going to be a big issue in this game since UConn is not only the best team in the Big East this season by far, they are also one of the best teams in the nation with the talent they have. They have a lot of good wins under their belt this year and even though they haven't looked at their best in the conference schedule, they are finally coming off a blow out win over Creighton in their last one and are starting to look like the team they are supposed to be. UConn is going to ride the momentum from that big win over Creighton and they should be able to take care of business at home against a Xavier team that has struggled in road games all season. The best way to place a bet here is on UConn to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"They just took our spirit. It's just effort and toughness. They showed a high level of toughness and we did not. We talked about defensive rebounding. We gave up 21 (offensive rebounds). That's what Big East toughness looks like. I told the guys, 'I hope y'all play basketball for a long time. You can't let a team just physically punk you, and they did that.'" - Richard Pitino after his team’s loss against Seton Hall last week.

“The team doesn’t have the killer instinct. When we get the Providence game, for example, up 10 in the first half, teams with that killer instinct stretch that lead to 18 going into halftime. They create separation, demoralize the opponent, and break their will.” - Dan Hurley on his team this season.
