USC vs Illinois Prediction

The current betting odds have Illinois listed as a 6.5 point underdog in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Illinois has looked good in their games this season with their 3-1 record overall, but their 0-1 conference record has them lower in the Big Ten now. They looked great in their first 3 games of the season and even had a big road win over Duke in a game which they won in blow out fashion, but now they are off a terrible conference loss in their last one and that loss really set them back. They got beaten down on the road by Indiana 63-10 and didn't even look like they belonged on the same field. They are still a ranked team though and they still have a lot of talent as they are much better than how they looked in that game so they aren't going to take that loss lightly and will be looking to bounce back here at home. Meanwhile, USC has looked great in their games this season with their 4-0 record overall and their 2-0 conference record which has them right near the top of the Big Ten. They are off a big 45-31 win over Michigan State in their last one and they have a road win in the conference under their belt too, but their road win came against Purdue who is one of the worst teams in the Big Ten so that wasn't much of a test for them. They looked great against Michigan State last week, but that game was at home and they still gave up 31 points as their defense hasn't looked great this year. The offense has been rolling in their games, but Illinois still has a much better defense than what they showed last week and they are going to be playing this game with a point to prove now. Illinois desperately needs this win a lot more after their showing last week and they have the talent to keep this a close game at home with a team traveling from the West who hasn't really been tested yet. The best way to place a bet here is on Illinois to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

“That was a game that had some unique twists and turns. I thought we were controlling the game, (and then) obviously we had a couple of errors there in the third quarter with the penalties ... and the turnover that allowed them to come back and capture some momentum. But I thought our team responded and separated back in a really good way. A lot to learn from. A lot that's got to continue to get better, but if you're learning lessons as you win, it's hard not to be excited.” - Lincoln Riley after his team’s win against MSU in their last game.

“We didn’t respond to any adversity. It started with the blocked punt and never really got anything on offense or defense. Embarrassing and at a loss for words.” - Bret Bielema after his team’s loss against Indiana in their last game.
