Raiders vs Patriots Prediction

The current betting odds have the Patriots listed as a 3 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. The Patriots looked terrible last season, finishing 4-13 overall as one of the worst teams in the NFL. They ended up firing their head coach after 1 season, but now they are bringing in a solid head coach in Mike Vrabel and he did wonders with the Titans for years even though he never really had a good QB. Now he is getting Drake Maye in his 2nd season and he did show some really good flashes last year. They also picked up some weapons for him to work with and the defense should look a lot better too. Meanwhile, the Raiders were also terrible last season with their 4-13 record overall which was one of the worst in the NFL. They have been a disaster for quite some time, also lacking a solid QB to lead the offense. Now Pete Carroll has taken over the team and they have brought in Geno Smith who will bring some much needed stability to this offense. They also drafted Jeanty so offense isn't going to be the issue for the Raiders, but they still had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season and they haven't improved much on that side of the ball. Both of these teams had terrible seasons last year and are now under new head coaches this season, but the Patriots are the more stable team coming into the season and they have the edge being at home too. The best way to place a bet here is on the Patriots to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"We thought a chance to add a guy like [Cooper], with experience, really to help our young guys, might really suit us well. And so, for Dont'e on the outside, they'll be doing a lot of the same stuff. I think Amari's way can affect him and help him come along. There's a lot of pressure for him to be the only X over there that we're kind of going with, so I think this really balances us out well. And I hope it really suits Jack and Dont'e." - Pete Carroll on the team signing Amari Cooper.

"We need [players] to put the team first and we're going to ask everybody to make tough decisions. Hopefully, the better you know somebody and understand who they're playing for, and trying to support, the things going on outside of [football], there's a lot of similarities, and I think the better it is to work with them." - Mike Vrabel on changing the team’s culture this season.
